Mild Blues handed Rabbi Matondo damage increase – FootballFanCast.com

A big claim has emerged on Glasgow Rangers forward Rabbi Matondo and his injury situation…

What’s the latest?

Light Blues journalist Jonny McFarlane has revealed that the Welsh international is not going to be sidelined for a significant period of time.

He tweeted:

“I understand 3-4 days for Rabbi Matondo. Nothing serious.”

This unspecified injury now looks set to keep him out of training until just before the opening match of the Premiership campaign on Saturday.

Supporters will be delighted

The Ibrox supporters will be delighted with this news as losing the attacker for weeks or months would have been a huge blow to the side.

He has caught the eye in pre-season with some impressive displays out on the flank and the fans will surely be keen to see him in the starting XI when the competitive games get underway.

The Welshman, signed from Schalke this summer, made a massive impact against West Ham in a 3-1 friendly win at Ibrox earlier this month. He came off the bench at half-time and almost instantly set up Tom Lawrence as he raced to the byline and cut the ball back for his teammate to fire into the back of the net.

That was not the end of his contributions in that match, though, as he later latched onto a loose touch from Lawrence and belted the ball into the roof of the net.

Matondo then played a huge role in the club’s goal in a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham. He beat his man down the wing before delivering an excellent cross that was deflected into the path of Antonio Colak – allowing the Croatian to find the back of the net.

These performances come after he enjoyed an impressive campaign on loan at Cercle Brugge in Belgium. In the Pro League, he racked up nine goals and two assists – creating four ‘big chances’ for his teammates – in 23 starts, which shows that he has the quality to deliver in the final third on a semi-regular basis.

His form in pre-season for Rangers has backed that up and Gio van Bronckhorst will surely be pleased with how quickly the winger has settled into life in Glasgow.

The fans will now be delighted, therefore, to learn that Matondo has not suffered a serious injury as he may be able to be selected at the weekend or in next week’s huge Champions League qualifying match.
